Dr. Rahul K. Bansal is a staff Urologist at St. Boniface General Hospital and Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He is Assistant Professor of Surgery in Section of Urology at Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba and Research Director for Urology program. He also serves as Director of Laparoscopic Kidney Donation program for Transplant Manitoba. He became board certified upon completion of residency training in General Surgery (Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana and All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi) and Urology (Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh) in India. He is fellow of Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and completed Urology residency at McMaster University, Hamilton. He completed fellowships at McMaster University and St. Michael’s Hospital, University of Toronto in Renal Transplant Surgery and Genito-Urinary Oncology with special focus on management of kidney cancer. During his training, Dr. Bansal developed extensive expertise in open, laparoscopic and robotic surgery for management of kidney cancer. He is actively involved in kidney cancer research and was recently inducted into medical advisory board of Kidney Cancer Canada.
During his training, he was selected as American Urological Association resident scholar and CUA-AUA international fellow. He has multiple peer-reviewed publications on kidney cancer, minimally invasive surgery and kidney transplant. He is certified in Surgical Research Methodology and serves as reviewer for European Urology Focus, Gold Journal of Urology, Canadian Urology Association Journal and Indian Journal of Urology. He was named among best reviewers for Canadian Urology Association Journal. His research interests include oncological and renal functional outcomes following surgery for renal cancers, strategies to expand organ donor pool and application of minimally invasive surgical techniques in urology. He is also member of many professional organizations including AUA, CUA, ASCO and USI.
